Turns out drugs were not the cause of Corey Haim's death. According to the Los Angeles Department of Coroner, the actor, who was just 38 when he passed away in March, died of "natural" causes. Autopsy and toxicology results show that drugs played "no significant contributing factors" in the actor's death.
Three causes of death were identified by the coroner: pneumonia, "diffuse alverolar damage" (damaged air sacs in the lungs) and "hypertrophic cardiomyopathy with coronary arteriosclerosis" (plaque build-up in blood vessels and the heart.)
Popular belief was that The Lost Boys actor's demise was caused by drugs, as Haim had a long history of abuse. A month after his death, authorities found over 550 prescription pills -- including Valium, Xanax, Vicodin -- in his home. But Haim's good pal, Corey Feldman, said that before his death, the actor had been "in the best frame of mind that he's ever been in," and had dedicated his life to tending to his mother, who is suffering from cancer.
"He's been there for her, taking care of her, being responsible," Feldman said.
