Congratulations to country stars Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, who are headed down the aisle! The singers announced their engagement to People magazine, complete with a detailed account of how the proposal went down.
"He called my dad and got his blessing first," Lambert said of her tradition-minded sweetheart's surprise proposal on May 9. "That was so Southern and old-school and perfect."
Getting down on one knee in the woods near Lambert's home in Tishomingo, Okla., Shelton presented her with a diamond and platinum ring he'd picked out.
"I was so proud of him," says Lambert, 26. "We've been together five years, so he knew exactly what I wanted but it's so much more perfect than I could have picked out myself."
So how did the betrothed couple toast the romantic milestone?
"We had a couple of Bacardi and Diet Sprites -- in a Solo cup!" Lambert laughed.
It's been a stellar year for Lambert, who scored her first No. 1 single in January with "White Liar," and dominated this year's ACMs, winning album of the year and top female vocalist. Tuesday morning, Lambert was nominated for two CMT awards, while Shelton also received a nod. "2010 will not be forgotten in my world," she says, looking forward to a bright future.
"Weddings are great and engagements are great and diamonds are especially great," Lambert says. "But I'm just excited to be married because I want to tell Blake I really can love him the rest of my life and be happy and make him happy."
