Courtney Love to Billy Corgan: Let's Kiss & Make Up

The latest chapter in the musicians' long and stormy relationship features a lengthy Facebook apology from Love

We never thought the day would come when Courtney Love would teach us a lesson in manners. But the famously hotheaded star has surprised critics by issuing a heartfelt public apology to longtime friend, sometime enemy, and onetime boyfriend Billy Corgan.

Corgan, 43, attacked his ex in the March issue of Rolling Stone, saying, "I have no interest in supporting her in any way, shape or form. You can't throw enough things down the abyss with a person like that."

The Smashing Pumpkins frontman was responding to a question about music he cowrote with Love last year. Although Love has said the tracks will be included on her forthcoming album, Nobody's Daughter, Corgan told the magazine in no uncertain terms that "it would be a real big problem, because I haven't given my permission."

But Love is turning the other cheek. On Tuesday, the 45-year-old Hole frontwoman posted a flowery open letter on her Facebook page, asking Corgan to accept her "sincerest apologies" for "all the thousand ways I sometimes offend you." Love signed off by saying, "Nothing will come between the truth of what we are: eternal lovers, eternal fighters, eternal warriors... I love you and can never thank you enough."

Love dated Corgan before she took up with Nirvana cofounder Kurt Cobain (and before she became an alt-rock celebrity herself as lead singer of Hole). While Corgan co-authored songs on her seminal 1998 album with Hole, Celebrity Skin, their relationship has been up and down ever since. In 2006, Corgan moved into a wing of Love's mansion; in 2008, Love tore into Corgan for refusing to play at daughter Frances Bean Cobain's sweet-16 birthday party. But in 2009, the two were seen together so often, they were rumored to be dating.

Whether Love is really turning over a new leaf, or just angling for permission to use Corgan-penned material on her next album, remains a mystery. But we're interested to see if she issues apologies to anyone else she's feuded with -- a long list that includes Sharon Osbourne, Lily Allen, Ryan Adams and Dave Grohl.
