Courtney Love may be estranged from her own daughter, but she says she's been giving motherly guidance to another young lady: Lindsay Lohan. The Hole singer, who claims to be drug-free since 2005, tells Details that she's been helping Lohan down the path to sobriety.
"I've taken up Lohan because nobody else will," claims Love, 47, in a new article about the prestige that's now attached to being a celebrity addict who gets clean.
Love says that the 25-year-old starlet is "further down the line" than she was at Lohan's age, "because there was no TMZ then." (Is Love saying that her own reputation would be even worse if TMZ had been around in the '90s? Because, yikes.)
Lindsay Lohan has made plenty of questionable decisions: violating her probation, posing for Playboy, boycotting toothbrushes, etc. Even so, why would LiLo choose the erratic Love as a sobriety coach when she could pick, oh, anybody else?
As it happens, she may not have chosen Love at all. According to E! News, the rocker was greatly exaggerating her role in Lindsay's recovery.
"Courtney Love is not, nor has she ever been, Lindsay's sober coach," says Lohan's rep. "Lindsay is, however, grateful for her friendship."
This is not the first time that Love has called herself a mentor to Lohan. Back in May, she complained about being the go-to woman for young starlets in trouble with the law.
"Lindsay Lohan called me after she was arrested," Love told The Fix. "I told Lindsay to just get it together and trust the judge. For some reason, Kim Stewart also called me when Paris Hilton got pulled over for her last DUI... I'm not even that friendly with these girls. What am I, a junkie Auntie Mame?"
Which raises the question: Exactly what kind of advice is she giving these girls? In an another passage from the article, Love describes a teachable moment she shared with the Mean Girls star.
"I went up to Lindsay's (hotel) room one time and there was a show on called 101 Celebrity Oops, and I am, like, every other one, you know -- boobs out, legs everywhere, throwing s*** at Madonna," recalls Love. "I'm like, 'Lindsay, look! Drugs are bad.'"
Wow -- it's like watching one of those car accident videos in driver's ed. Maybe Courtney Love would make a great sober coach after all!
