Courtney Love: My Daughter Was Asked to Play Bella in 'Twilight'

The rocker claims producers reached out to Frances Bean when casting Kristen Stewart's starmaking role

Even though Courtney Love is under court order not to see daughter Frances Bean Cobain, she's still a proud mama. In a new interview with The Daily Mail, Love brags about how grounded her 17-year-old daughter is -- and reveals some eyebrow-raising pieces of trivia about Kurt Cobain's little girl.

"Frances is so beautiful, but she doesn’t want to be famous," says Love, 45. "She was offered the part of Bella in the Twilight movies, and Tim Burton wanted her for Alice in Wonderland."

Okay, hold the phone, Courtney. Yes, Frances is very pretty. But something doesn't add up here -- namely, she's not an actress. Why would two very high-profile roles be offered to a girl who's literally never done any acting? Alice in Wonderland is slightly more plausible, since Burton reportedly wanted to cast an unknown. But although the girl who ended up playing Alice -- Mia Wasikowska -- wasn't a household name, she already had an impressive reel of TV and indie film roles, and the presumed skill to hold her own in scenes with the likes of Johnny Depp.

It's downright hard to believe Frances Bean was offered the lead role in Twilight. The search for Bella Swan was competitive and widely publicized, with fans vying for their favorite actresses (Alexis Bledel, Rachel McAdams, Anna Paquin) and author Stephenie Meyer campaigning for her own favorites (Emily Browning, Ellen Page, Danielle Panabaker). Actress Kristen Stewart was originally an unpopular choice among fans, but producers knew what they were doing: Stewart had been acting since childhood, and she'd already won critical acclaim for roles in films like Panic Room and Cold Creek Manor. So was the inexperienced daughter of Courtney Love really offered the role? It would have made for great publicity, but perhaps a daunting challenge for her director and costars.

We wonder if Courtney Love is projecting her own Twilight fantasies onto her daughter -- rumor once had it that Love wanted Robert Pattinson to be Frances' first boyfriend. We also wonder how Love would even know about her daughter's Hollywood offers, since Bean has had a restraining order against her since last year and communication between the two has been notoriously strained. (Love claims the restraining order has been lifted, though her contact with her daughter is still closely monitored.)

Love also reveals a bit about Frances' actual future plans. "She wants to go to college," the Hole singer says. "She's very good at graphic novels." Rumor has it that Cobain will be attending Bard College in upstate New York, although she has yet to verify that speculation.
