We all have such busy lives that we multitask all day, even when we are on vacation! We run from pool parties to BBQ’s without missing a beat... but are we missing something from our beach bags?
You may not have time to run back to your room and change, so it's important to be prepared for that impromptu invite. You can be ready to go from day to night with these few simple additions to your beach tote!
You should have a few tricks up your sleeve when you pack your beach bag. In fact you should get a beach bag that can double as an evening tote. A straw or canvas bag can easily serve both purposes. It can be big enough to carry what you need but be pretty enough to almost look like a “real” handbag for that evening out.
Also, you should wear a cover-up to the beach that can double as a cute little sundress for when that guy at the pool invites you out for a cocktail. Look for the following when picking out a beach cover up:
1. A fabric that does not wrinkle. In fact, very popular this season is the “wrinkled” look. It’s pre-wrinkled to take the worry out of stuffing it in your beach bag. Just pull it out give it a shake and you are good to go.
2. A cover-up that is lightweight enough for the beach but will serve in the cooler air at night. So avoid a gauzy flimsy cover-up if you need it to do double duty.
3. It should definitely have some shape to it. It shouldn’t look like a box and should fit over your suit without any problem. If it fits in the baby-doll category…make sure it is short enough. Cotton-lycra dresses work perfectly. (Just remember if you are wearing a bathing suit with a skirt…look for a cover-up/sundress with more of an A-line.)
Now you know what the beach air will do to your hair. Throw some hair accessories into that beach bag. Have some plastic hair sticks and put your hair in a tight bun. Tie a hair scarf to your beach tote and use it later as an update to your pony tail or as a headband. You can tie your hair back and still look pulled together. And please girls, no rubber bands. Use your sunglasses as a headband instead.
You should always throw in some inexpensive long necklaces and a few bangles to dress up that cover-up to make it look more like a sundress. A few inexpensive accessories can really dress up your look. Long multi-chain necklaces are so hot right now. Put them in a pouch or ziploc to avoid tangling.
Most importantly, you should have a pair of cute sandals to switch into, so that you can put your flip flops away. Get a light pair and lay them flat at the bottom of your beach tote during the day. A nice metallic will always help dress it up and ease the transition from day to night.
When you are packing for the beach or a pool party, be optimistic. Be prepared for whatever the day (and night) may bring. You should always be prepared because you never know when you will really want to look good at a moment’s notice.
Here is a video that we made last year. Maybe a few visuals will help, but remember ladies, the jokes are a year old!
Okay, so you have the sun block, the lip gloss and the magazine but what else do you have in your beach bag?
