Love Notes

Every mom (and aunt and grandma...) knows that nothing says "I love you" like a handmade gift from the kids. These ideas are easy enough for preschoolers to pull off (with a bit of help from you), yet elegant enough for both older kids and discerning recipients. In other words, they'll get displayed with affection ‑- not just out of it.

For Love Notes, you'll need:

  1. To be done by an adult: With a sharp knife, cut three 1-inch-think slices out of potato. Then use cookie cutter to cut a heart out of slices. Pat potato slices dry with paper towel.
  2. Using one potato "heart" for each color, have your child dip potato hearts into paint and stamp a random pattern of hearts on the front of each note card.
  3. Allow to dry. On the back of each card, write "hand made by (child's name)."
  4. Write a Valentine's greeting on the inside to give cards individually. To give the set as a gift, stack cards and tie with a ribbon.
