Crafts: Get a jump on Valentine's Day

  1. Have child wipe "bowl" part of spoon, top and bottom, with oily towel
  2. In disposable pan, mix "Plaster of Paris" and water, according to package directions.
  3. Working quickly, have child dip spoon into mix and take out one level spoonful of mix.
  4. Leave on spoon.
  5. Holding the pin horizontally, push long, closed side of pin about one third of the way into wet plaster to form broach pin, being careful not to push pin in too deep to open and close properly.
  6. Allow to dry about an hour.
  7. Slide form off spoon and turn over, to create "bugs".
  8. Paint thin black line down length of back.
  9. Paint front third of bug black.
  10. Allow to dry.
  11. Paint back two thirds, on either side of center line, red.
  12. Allow to dry.
  13. Paint tiny black dots on red surface.
  14. Apply eyes.
  15. Gift wrap if intended as a gift.

When you are all finished, look out the window. Maybe you'll see the signs of an early spring.
