When you're trying to conceive -- especially if you're having trouble -- no conception suggestion seems too outrageous to attempt. (Lift up your butt for a few minutes after having sex? Done it.) Supermodel Iman even turned to the African tradition of holding another woman's baby when she was struggling to get pregnant. (Apparently, toting around Christie Brinkley's babe for a day worked.)
Of course, not everyone has access to a spare kiddo. Here's what other moms have tried (take them all with a grain of salt -- none of these are doctor-approved!):
“When it came time to have a third child I found myself having trouble. I consulted with my Chinese doctor and he told me to rub my lower belly with sandstone in the morning and jade before bedtime. I did it and three months later I was pregnant!” -- Margie S.
“When I got married I was unable to get pregnant right away. I had been given various options by my doctor but wanted to continue looking for natural methods. I had read that a juice mix of bitter melon, green pepper, raw garlic and cucumber can sometimes help to stimulate the ovaries. Aside from the taste, I can tell you that the drink is effective. I was pregnant 6 months later.” -- Gloria K.
“I heard that raw egg whites, when inserted before intercourse, help keep the sperm alive because of the Ph balance. I tried it and I got pregnant.” -- Erika L.
“I got pregnant the same weekend I rubbed the belly of a dear friend. After two years of trying for #2, no luck. We think I won't get pregnant again until she does and I have another belly to rub.” -- Fiona T.
Our iVillage moms are trying some wacky stuff, too!
“I think the craziest (or maybe just dumbest) thing I've ever done is follow the belief that if you live like you're pregnant and expecting a baby, then the universe will bring it to you. So I brought up all the baby clothes I've accumulated over the past 3 years and hung them in the future nursery closet, set up a rocking chair in the corner that I envisioned nursing my baby in, and set a bouncer that I got at a mom2mom sale. Needless to say, [it] didn't work.” -- animal_house
“After a few months of trying to conceive I started buying stuff off Amazon like crazy. I bought preseed because I thought probably the sperm didn't have enough fluid to swim through. I bought fertili tea and used to drink that, I used ovulation strips like they were going out of style. I got some baby tattoos and stuck them on my stomach thinking it would somehow help. [But] I think the most extreme thing I have done is lie on my back with my legs propped up on the walls for two hours after sex just to make sure those sperm would reach my egg.” -- trinigirl2010
