What You'll Need

  • Seashells: If you don’t have enough, you can buy them. ($9 for 42 pounds of mixed seashells at Jamali). Look for shells that are flat or round; we used cowries, scallops, lion’s paws, augers and cones. Coquinas, turkey wings and sand dollars have interesting shapes that also work well. Don’t worry if your shells aren’t perfect; painting over them will hide any flaws.
  • A sample size of acrylic interior paint, such as Martha Stewart Living 8-ounce Pure White Interior Paint Tester ($3 at The Home Depot)
  • Painter’s tape
  • Paintbrush
  • Hot glue gun
  • Small frame or mirror, such as the Malma mirror ($3 at Ikea)
  • Parchment paper for covering your workspace
