Your kid is ready to make the move from crib to bed -- and how hard can it be? You just dismantle the crib and install the new toddler bed, right? Not so fast! If making the crib to bed transition were really that easy, there wouldn't be so many articles written about it -- and parents wouldn't seem to have post-traumatic stress disorder after doing it. Here’s what we wish we knew about Project Big-Kid Bed:
You'll Feel Nostalgic -- and a Little Scared
When you and your partner struggled to assembled the crib just a few short years ago, you thought it would be forever until it was time to disassemble it. Now, you can't believe it's time. Like potty-training, giving up the stroller and starting preschool, moving from the crib to a big bed is one of those big milestones that remind you how quickly your baby is growing up. Don't underestimate how nostalgic you'll feel! Plus, you and your kiddo have a good thing going with the crib: She feels comfortable in it and you feel comfortable knowing that she can’t get out (until, um, she can). She may cry and whine at bedtime, but at least she isn’t going to break out and wander into the living room, where you’re trying to catch up on Breaking Bad. In this case, change really is scary.
