A&E
What's Criss Angel's most impressive magic trick to date? It might be the fact that he's still around. The grungy hipster magician is heading into season 6 of his A&E show, Criss Angel Mindfreak (Wednesday, 10 p.m. ET), in a premiere episode in which he promises to cheat death once again. (This time, he'll "attempt" a motorcycle jump across the Grand Canyon.) But how many times can you cheat death before people start to tire of you?
With his dark guyliner, black leather vests, and goth hairstyles, this 42-year-old illusionist has a distinctive look, and he's cultivated a certain young Hollywood cred. (Those glorious abs, which he displays often, don't hurt, either.)
But in the years since, Angel has been more associated with kitschy Vegas (where he has a nightly magic show at the Luxor) than the L.A. party circuit. His TV show continues, but it begs a question: When you have already walked on water, hovered in the air between buildings, cut yourself in half, and gotten run over by a steamroller, what's there left to do? When a TV interviewer asked Angel this question recently, he essentially replied that his growing fame and influence allows him to attempt his illusions and stunts in more iconic places. Point taken—the Grand Canyon is about as iconic as it gets.
