The Daily Feed: Hold the Turkey?

In just over 10 days, millions of Americans will sit down to feast on a giant bird. So it was more than a little surprising to note the makeup of this week’s New York Times Advice, How-To and Miscellaneous bestseller list. Of the top 20 books listed in that category for the week – 10 in hardcover, 10 in paperback – three, or 15 percent, are vegan-themed.

On the hardcover list at numbers three and nine, respectively, are two vegan cookbooks, The Conscious Cook by Tal Ronnen (Morrow/HarperCollins) and The Kind Diet by the actress Alicia Silverstone (Rodale). On the paperback list, for the 120th week in a row, is the vegan diet advice book Skinny Bitch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin (Running Press).

So while plenty of Americans will still heap their plates with roasted turkey, giblet gravy, and chorizo stuffing, many, it seems, will not. And judging by the bestseller lists, they’ll have plenty of options for what to prepare instead.
