The Daily Feed: James Beard Award Semifinalists Announced

What the Grammys are to music, the Oscars are to film, and the Tonys are to theater, the James Beard Awards are to dining. Each year, the James Beard Foundation bestows high honors on a select few chefs, restaurants, and other culinary professionals at its luxe awards ceremony in New York.

Buddy TV points out that this year’s semifinalists includes Bryan Voltaggio and Kevin Gillespie of Top Chef Season 7, as well as uber-restaurateur and Top Chef head judge Tom Colicchio.

Voltaggio has been nominated for Best Chef: MidAtlantic for his work at Volt in Frederick, Maryland; Gillespie has been honored in the Rising Star Chef of the Year category for Woodfire Grill in Atlanta; and Colicchio, already a multitime James Beard award winner, is in the running for Outstanding Chef. (See the complete list of semifinalists here.)

Finalists will be announced on March 22 in New Orleans, and winners will earn their prestigious medals on May 3rd in New York City. Media and book winners will enjoy their own gala awards ceremony the day prior.
