It was an emotional night on Dancing with the Stars as not one but two of the all-star competitors had to leave the ballroom.
After what hard-to-please judge Len Goodman called the best night of performances in the show's history, the three lowest-scoring couples were once again Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas, who landed in the bottom spot despite their best score to date; Kirstie Alley and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who received 24 points for their Rolling Stones-themed dance, and Drew Lachey and Anna Trebunskaya who got sexy with their "Crazy in Love" routine.
In a brief interlude before the eliminations began, season 11 fan favorites Lacey Schwimmer and Kyle Massey performed a swing routine with the night's musical guest, Frankie Moreno. The former Jersey Boys star sang "Tangerine Honey" from his new self-titled album as Massey and Schwimmer jumped and jived on the stage.
But then it was back to the matter at hand. The first battle to remain in the competition came down to Kirstie and Max vs. Drew and Anna. Ultimately, the first dancer to be sent packing was second 2 winner, Lachey.
"It was going to be tough regardless of who went home tonight. I can honestly say I wouldn't change a thing," said the former champion. "We had a great time, and I had an amazing partner."

The second and final elimination of the night was narrowed down to Palin and Ballas and former favorites Helio Castroneves and Chelsie Hightower and Sabrina Bryan and Louis Van Amstel.
And once again, another former champion fell short of the votes necessary to keep him on the show. Indy racer (and season 5 winner) Castroneves will not be returning on the competition.
"I want to thank Team Penske and the Indy racing league for letting me do this. I also want to thank my family, Chelsie and I want to thank America, for voting for me. I couldn't be happier." the Brazilian race-car driver said.
Hightower had her own praise for Castroneves: "Honestly, it was so fun. We had such a blast. He was always such a joy and had an amazing attitude."

Next week, the remaining dancers will perform dances picked by their fellow competitors.
