'Dancing with the Stars': Did Kirstie Alley Climb Out of the Bottom Spot?

This was a pivotal week for Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars, because not one but two couples will be going home Tuesday night, after last week's Presidential Election granted the contestants a week off from eliminations.

With the competition about to narrow down to five excellent teams, the heat was on Monday night to deliver flawless performances. So how did the duo of Kirstie Alley and  Maks Chmerkovskiy do after last week's technically difficulties? Fortunately for them, they had their best dance of the season, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough to push them up the leaderboard.

Kirstie and Maks' Viennese waltz was lovely and even tough judge Len Goodman called it their "very best dance," but it still only earned them a 27. When the second round of dances added an extra dancer to the mix (Tristan MacManus), they scored even lower, earning only a 24 for a paso doble Bruno Tonioli said was "like watching Valley of the Dolls."

Usually on top of their game Shawn Johnson, who reunited with her previously injured partner Derek Hough, impressed the judges with their solo routine, a Viennese waltz.

"You've turned into a beautiful, rich, in-depth performer," Carrie Ann Inaba said.

But after reteaming with Mark Ballas for a trio samba (that controversially incorporated tribal elements), the judges were uncharacteristically disappointed.

"It was very self-indulgent because there was very little samba content," Len said. "If you go home tomorrow don't blame me, blame those two." The second dance earned 26 points, landing them in the second-to-bottom spot for the night.

Meanwhile in the utter perfection category, Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani, earned two perfect scores: first for their quickstep that earned a standing ovation from the audience and three 10s from the judges:  "It was like watching Ann Miller and Gene Kelly," Bruno said. "It was as good as the best America has ever produced."

Then their second-round paso doble with Troupe member Henry Byalikov received high praise from Len:  "Of all of our celebrities, you impress me the most."

Apolo Anton Ohno wowed the audience by ziplining down to the stage to kick off his tango with partner Karina Smirnoff.

"It was like Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible," Len said of the moment. "I absolutely loved it." The tango earned the couple a 29.5, to which they added another 29 for their second round jive with company dancer Sasha Farber.

Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd had a couple of wobbles during their quickstep to "Danger Zone" from Top Gun, but they still managed to score a 29.5 and then a 29 for their sexy samba with Chelsie Hightower.

Cheryl Burke and Emmitt Smith were solid once again with their first-round samba that earned the couple a 28.  "This man puts the 'ooh' in smooth," Len said. But their second dance with Kym Johnson was so good it scored a perfect 30!

"You were in the red-hot, spicy jalapeño zone," Carrie Ann said.

Kelly Monaco and Val Chmerkovskiy scored a 28 for their Viennese waltz and then a 28.5 for a lively jive with Louis Van Amstel.  "It had the F-factor," Len said of trio. "It was fun, it was fast, it was flamboyant and it was fabulous."
