While we're all trying desperately to avoid the aches and pains of the flu this season, the cast of Dancing with the Stars are also doing their best to survive the outbreak that has hit their stage. With pros Derek Hough and Mark Ballas are already bitten buy the bug, the remaining dancers are doing anything and everything not to come down with the virus – especially after hearing what Derek went through.
“Wednesday I got home around 1 a.m. after rehearsing and choreographing. By 3 a.m., I was sicker than a dog,” Derek, whose fever reached a whopping 105 degrees, told People.com. “My whole bed was drenched because I sweated so much. I had to sleep in the bathtub. I’ve been sick a thousand times but something was different about this — I literally couldn’t walk or move but I eventually went to the doctor and got some IVs in my arm because I was so dehydrated.”
Mark also came down with the flu around the same time as Derek, but he continued to practice, while wearing a mask, with partner Melissa Joan Hart. Thankfully, both guys are feeling much better now, and their costars are doing whatever they can to stay healthy.
"I’m living off of [vitamin drink mix] Emergen-C right now,” Lacey Schwimmer said after Monday's performance. “And though I love them, I’m also keeping my distance from Derek and Mark.”
"As soon as I heard about it, I took medicine. I’m a hypochondriac — I hate, hate getting sick. I use hand sanitizer every five seconds,” explained Aaron Carter.
“I’m just trying to sleep as much as I can,” Iron Chef's Mark Dacascos said.
“It’s all about the massages,” Mya chimed in. “They get rid of a lot of toxins. Taking baths and overloading on water also helps.”
