Facebook Pages for Drunken College Hookups
As if we needed another reason to worry about college drinking, now there are Facebook pages whose sole purpose is to detail intoxicated sexual exploits among students. "UC Berkeley Hook-Ups," for example, brands itself as a campus Missed Connections forum "specifically designed to help the fellow drunk locate his/her Berk town hookup." While some students use the page to track down a recent hookup who they think might be the co-ed of their dreams (or at least they thought so after several shots on an empty stomach), most are public rants about sloppy sexual encounters gone wrong.
According to The Huffington Post, even though the authors of these explicit posts are anonymous, their unwitting subjects don't appear to have the same protection. From a post on the UC Santa Barbara hookups page: "...To the tall blonde guy named TJ... at first glance I thought you were a total babe... then we started to make out and that's when it started to go downhill."
What's worse -- yes, it actually gets worse -- a startling number of posts describe possible sexual assault. While students at some schools are trying to get a policy in place that will better protect their classmates' privacy, most campus administrations and officials from Facebook have be unable -- or unwilling -- to get involved.
