You know how Danielle Staub is constantly saying that the other Real Housewives of New Jersey are trying to kill her? We still think she's a little crazy -- but it turns out that in the 1980s, somebody actually was trying to kill her. Specifically, the most notorious drug cartel in Colombia put a hit on her because of a botched drug deal. And you thought you knew everything about Staub's shady past!
The shocking incident was exposed during a deposition last month, relating to ex-husband Kevin Maher's slander lawsuit against the reality star. RadarOnline obtained the testimony of a drug dealer named Daniel Aguilar, who ran drugs for the Medellin Cartel headed by legendary criminal Pablo Escobar. Aguilar told the judge that he knew Staub in the '80s, when her name was Angela Minelli. He testified that she was a prostitute in Miami at the time, who regularly visited him at his safe house to smoke marijuana laced with cocaine ("more than 50 or 100 times").
"We became intimate friends... she would do her drugs... and sometimes I'd wonder was she hanging out for the drugs, which most girls back then did," Aguilar said.
Allegedly, Staub came to Aguilar one day to arrange a massive drug deal, saying that a friend of her needed $100,000 worth of cocaine. But the drugs were stolen during the transaction -- and although Staub claimed she'd been "ripped off," the other men in the cartel wanted to kill her over the incident.
"Her life was about to end," says Aguilar, who claims he stopped the drug kingpins from shooting her. "... My people wanted her dead; they called me weak for letting her live."
After the incident, Aguilar spent nine years in prison for dealing cocaine, while Staub was spared jail in exchange for cooperating with the FBI. But Aguilar also claims that he paid his people their $100,000 to save Staub's life -- and he now wants that money back in exchange for "protecting her."
The drug dealer is a witness for Maher, who is suing Staub for slander after she made allegations that he was an abusive husband. Since all attempts at mediation have failed miserably, the case is headed to trial in February -- where we'll no doubt hear even more about Staub's scary past. At this point, we're not even sure we want to know...
