In a possible effort to revamp his image since his split from wife Courteney Cox (and his on-air over-sharing about their sex life), David Arquette stopped by Live! with Regis & Kelly on Wednesday morning.
"The fact of the matter is I love my wife, she's an incredible woman," Arquette, 39, told hosts Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa. "We're just at different places right now."
The Scream 4 star -- who was recently spotted at the pumpkin patch with 6-year-old daughter Coco -- addressed the rumors of his infidelity. "There's going to be a story coming out that said I was a cheater, and I was faithful to my wife for 11 years," he said. "We'd been separated for a while, and we didn't want to make that public so it wouldn't be a big deal. But, we also had an agreement that we could date other people."
"I didn't want to be a labeled a cheater," the actor said. And after a brief pause, he added with a laugh to the audience, "Awkward silence!"
Arquette got himself into a heap of trouble when he shared intimate details of his relationship with Cox, 46, to Howard Stern on Oct. 12 -- but it seemed he had done some damage control with this latest appearance. That was, until he went right back to where he started: Stern's radio show!
Arquette spilled secrets to Stern again on Wednesday, including the fact the he and Cox did not have a prenuptial agreement -- to which Stern joked, "Can you count to 50 (million dollars)?" He also dished about his post-breakup sex life.
"After the first girl I slept with, I was crying," he admitted. "I know that’s not very sexy. What it does lack is that emotional love that I always have with Court."
Still, Arquette (who even acknowledged, "I’m up s***’s creek right now"), had nothing but kind words to say about his soon-to-be ex-wife. "She is incredible," he said of Cox. As far as rumors that she's dating her Cougar Town costar, Brian Van Holt, Arquette said: "Any guy would be blessed to be with her. I don’t have any hard feelings for anyone. This is life and we are just going through it publicly."
It feels a bit conflicted considering at one point during the interview Arquette (who claims he's been "going crazy" since their split), not-so-gingerly told Stern and his listeners, "The fact of the matter is, I'm still f***ing in love with my wife. I mean, that's the bottom line."
