The sexual assault case against magician David Copperfield has magically disappeared. The woman who filed charges against him withdrew her claims Tuesday.
It was almost three years ago when Lacey Carroll, 23, the first runner-up last year in Miss Washington USA, claimed that Copperfield attacked, sexually assaulted and threatened to kill her when she visited him on his private island in the Bahamas.
Carroll said she's dropped her lawsuit because Copperfield's lawyers continually subjected her "to intense scrutiny and constant surveillance, while her family, friends and co-workers have been besieged with subpoenas and demands for personal information."
A rep for the magic man countered that the beauty pageant's claims were "nothing but a pathetic attempt to extort Mr. Copperfield for money with malicious and false allegations."
In January, Federal prosecutors announced they were dropping their investigation without filing charges.
