Though most people associate Dax Shepard with his comedic days on the Ashton Kutcher reality show Punk'd, the 35-year-old actor is treading more dramatic territory on NBC's Parenthood as Crosby, the youngest sibling in the Braverman household, who finds out that he's the father of a 5-year-old son.
While the show hasn't changed his mind about having kids anytime soon, it did help Shepard realize what kind of child he wants: "We had this little guy who guest-starred whose name was Cole, and he had glasses and a lisp and I'd never seen a cuter creature in my life," Shepard tells iVillage exclusively. "And that day I went home from work going, 'I want that kid in my life so bad. I want to have a kid. I want to have one with glasses and a lisp. And I want to take really good care of him.'"
Shepard, who's engaged to actress Kristen Bell, is also the star of the new indie film The Freebie, in which a married couple takes a night off from being monogamous. While Shepard doesn't think freebies are healthy for relationships, he does understand why people have fantasy celebrity freebies. "It's safe to have a celebrity freebie because the odds are against you that you're ever going to meet Brad Pitt or the Cloon-Doctor, you're probably not going to see him at the supermarket and have a shot," he explains.
And though he and Bell won't be having celebrity freebies, she may want to watch out. "I've met Helen Mirren, so if she was on my list, it would have been game on!" Shepard jokes.
