I wanted to wake up today excited for my challenge. I will prove to anyone who will listen (or read, rather) that, with creativity, seven outfits out of six items is a cinch. Only, that's not what happened. Instead, I woke up today -- the first day of New York Fashion Week -- mourning the dresses I'm not going to wear. True story -- I've been saving a handful of dresses for the shows. There's the Tracy Reese print dress I splurged on months ago, the Rebecca Taylor shift I scored at a sample sale, the Lipsy London party dress I saw on Louise Roe, the Temperley jacket I wanted to wear with my metallic leopard leggings from last season, and my go-to Liberty of London maxi that I wore all summer.
But today, I'm in a vintage Ralph Lauren button-down, no-name skinny jeans, and a navy blue boyfriend cardigan from Forever 21 -- pieces I chose for my six because I knew they'd be versatile enough to mix and match (along with a white linen A-line skirt, a cotton LBD and a plain white tee). It's simple, not to mention a little androgynous, so it requires very little accessorizing. Menswear is so hot right now, it works. I chose a pair of sky-high gray maryjanes by Steven, my black Charles David satchel, and my hair tied back to go with the look.
Although I'm off to Lincoln Center (where New York Fashion Week is being held for the first time since its stint at Bryant Park) in -- dare I say it? -- denim, the ensem' is still polished enough to pass for cool. (Right? Please tell me I look okay!)
Hopefully, I'll be able to keep it up for days to come. I suspect it'll only get harder after each day. Check back tomorrow for another combination from the six!
