Got a pacifier addict at home? We worked with the experts to create a week-long program to help little suckers become pacifier-free (12 Photos)
Today's Goal: Your child is still sucking on her paci as usual, but today you'll introduce the idea of giving it up.
How to Do It: Take the first day to sit down together and have a little chat with your toddler or preschooler. Find a quiet spot and give her a short overview of the 'paci plan,' talking up the positives first. Connect giving it up with recent age-appropriate achievements she may have made recently, such as: She's in a big girl bed, she's no longer in a highchair or she's starting preschool.
If she's over 2, also mention some incentives to giving it up: For example, she can can trade it for a special toy. Or it's time to give it up, but you can plan a special big kid event (a trip to the zoo or water park) to celebrate when she's done. (Once she's reached this milestone, you can put one of these into motion.) It's okay to mention the downside, too -- the fact that she may miss it from time to time, but don't dwell on that too much.
