The Deadliest Ice Cream Sundaes

Feel like downing 1,660 calories and 51 grams of saturated fat? You're in luck! That's precisely what Applebee's Chocolate Chip Cookie Sundae offers, according to The Daily Beast.

In its exposé on The 40 Deadliest Ice Creams, the website highlights 39 other frozen treats likely to increase your dress size, including Friendly's 1,700 calorie Hunka Chunka PB Fudge Lava Cake Sundae and Carvel's 1,060 calorie Peanut Butter Cup Dasher. Cold Stone Creamery, Dairy Queen, and Sonic get a nod on the list, too.

It's desserts like these that give ice cream a bad rap. But like so many other indulgences, ice cream can and should be enjoyed in moderation throughout the summer. Just remember to use your head when ordering: if the portion size is mammoth, the toppings list is endless, and the descriptors go on and on ("peanut butter fudge lava cake," for example), you may be getting more (calories and fat) than you bargained for.

Of course, you can always do your own research, and check out the nutritional profile at fast food joints near you. The information is all online, if you're willing to dig around. Here's Carvel's nutritional facts, for example, and you can get the scoop on Cold Stone Creamery here.

Funny, I'm suddenly craving a bowl of berries and a tall glass of water.
