Defiance

Why you should see it: This fact-based World War II drama tells the story of three heroic Jewish brothers (Craig, Schreiber and Bell) who escape from Nazi-occupied Poland and build a village in the Belarusian forest, where they become allies with Russian resistance fighters and save hundreds of their fellow Jews from the Nazis.
Box office bottom line: The fact that the movie's heroes really existed only adds to the emotional wallop the movie packs. All three leads turn in fantastic performances, but Craig, as the oldest brother, is a standout, even in a holiday movie season that is rife with awards contenders.
