Demi Lovato hasn't admitted that she punched back-up dancer Alex Welch -- but she's not about to go to court over it. Welch, 21, has claimed that the singer-actress attacked her out of the blue while they on an airplane during the Jonas Brothers tour. The incident is rumored to have been the last straw that motivated Lovato, 18, to check into rehab for "physical and emotional issues." This week, Welch announced her intention to file a lawsuit against her one-time tour buddy.
"After the attack, Alex had to get emergency treatment," Welch's lawyer told Radar Online. "She is now consulting a Beverly Hills ears, nose and throat plastic surgeon. "
Although earlier reports said that Welch had suffered no permanent damage -- just a black eye and a bruised cheekbone -- the dancer did say that she felt deeply betrayed by the Sonny With a Chance star.
"To this day, I haven't gotten an apology. I've heard nothing," she told
It sounds like Lovato may finally be ready to apologize, though. Just hours after Welch's lawyer announced his intention to sue for assault, he received a call from Lovato's people requesting "an amicable resolution" to the dispute. As of Tuesday afternoon, both lawyers seemed confident that the ladies would settle their differences out of court.
Demi Lovato checked into rehab on November 1st, where her family recently joined her for Thanksgiving.
