While singer/actress Demi Lovato is still in rehab to receive treatment for "emotional and physical" issues, the young star made two big strides over the Christmas holiday.

On December 24th, People reported that Lovato, 18, and dancer Alex Welch reached a settlement surrounding their October altercation. While they toured together with The Jonas Brothers during the South American leg of their tour, Lovato struck Welch, 21, leaving her with a black eye and a bruised left cheekbone.

Welch, who had previously planned to take legal action against Lovato, told People, "We came to an agreement and I'm ready to move on," adding, "I'm happy....I'm ready to start working again."

The dancer also says she'll be donating a portion of the settlement (the amount was undisclosed) to charity, explaining to the magazine "That's important."

In addition to putting the Welch issue behind her, Lovato was able to spend Christmas with her family. An unnamed source close to the Lovatos revealed to People that the Sonny with a Chance star was given permission to leave the rehab facility for the day.

Lovato reportedly spent the day with her mother, stepfather (who told fans in the wake of the news that Lovato was entering treatment, "Our entire family appreciates the outpouring of support we have received") and her two sisters.

The source goes on to say that being able to spend Christmas with her family was of great importance to Lovato because, "It is the most important holiday to her." While she didn't have to spend Christmas alone, Lovato did stay in rehab during Thanksgiving.

Lovato's reps did not comment to People on either the Christmas release or Welch settlement story.
