Demi Lovato Takes a Twitter Break, and We Don't Blame Her!

After a recent rant, the starlet is "gonna take a breather from twitter" -- should more stars follow suit?

Demi Lovato is taking a break from the tweet life. The X Factor judge has announced that she'll be "taking a breather from Twitter" after a recent Twitter rant, which was speculated to be about her on-again/off-again boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama. (A sample: "Trust is a bond between TWO people that is found ONLY when they are able to listen/understand where the other person is coming from. That, to me, is the key to friendships/relationships.")

"I don't get how people get "stories" from very vague twitter posts... About friendship.....??" the annoyed singer tweeted on Thursday. "Blehh. I really love my fans but I hate gossip sites."

Now, we love our celebrity gossip, even if celebs like Demi don't love us back. But we have to say that the singer has a point here.

Now that so many celebrities are on Twitter, the microblogging site has turned us all into word detectives, trying to piece together the meaning of even the vaguest tweets. On a slow news day, celeb watchers are like fortune tellers reading tea leaves. Take, for example, this recent tweet from Miley Cyrus:

"Best day ever with my future husband."

Did that tweet mean that Cyrus and fiance Liam Hemsworth were planning a secret wedding? Maybe. Or maybe they were just enjoying a really great Downton Abbey marathon. We just don't know.

The thing is, a lot of celebrities use Twitter to deliberately provoke this kind of speculation. By showing us tiny slivers of their lives, they keep us guessing, which keeps them in the headlines. (Miley has pretty much mastered this game.) Unfortunately, there's a flip side, which is that people will often jump to the wrong conclusions. Lovato thought she was waxing philosophical about friendship, but instead, her tweets were interpreted as an attack on Valderrama. We can see how that could be hurtful.

And that's why we don't blame Demi for taking a Twitter hiatus. It takes a thick skin to deal with online haters and untrue gossip, and sometimes, even the most confident celebrities will crack under the pressure. (That's why many of them don't even write their own tweets!) If she needs to take a breather for her own sanity, we are 100 percent behind her. Celebs have a right to privacy, too, and their fans need to respect that -- even if they're secretly dying to know what their favorite singer had for breakfast.
