Demi Moore's Twitter Feed Saves the Day

I haven't signed up for a personal Twitter (but Daily Blabber has one - follow us!) -- I'm afraid my husband will divorce me if I am anymore socially connected than I already am -- here's a good reason why we all should.

It seems that a tragedy may have been averted after a fan announced her plans to commit suicide by tweeting Demi Moore.

Those who follow the actress via the network alerted authorities and the woman was taken into custody, and for a mental evaluation.

"Sandieguy" wrote a message to Demi early this morning, in which she described the way she was going to end her life.

"Getting a knife, a big one that is sharp. Going to cut my arm down the whole arm so it doesn't waste time," the fan wrote.

Seconds later she followed up with,"gbye ... gonna kill myself now."

Demi did not contact the authorities herself, but many of her followers felt the need to call for help.

"We received several calls in regards to the Twitter threat," San Jose Police Department Public Information Officer Jermaine Thomas told ABCNews.com. "We located the subject and that person was uninjured. We did take the person into custody for evaluation."

"This Twitter concept is so new, this is the first time it's led us to what could have been a very real crime," he said. "This could be yet another tool to find out what's going on out there."

Demi's husband, Ashton Kutcher later tweeted,  "Wifey reported a suicide attempt based on a at reply tweet she got and saved someones life. the woman is in the hospital now."

While Demi wrote, "It is my understanding that the situation was not a joke and that through the collective efforts here action was taken to provide help! Thanks everyone for reaching out to the San Jose PD i am told they are aware and no need to call anymore. I do not know this woman...."

Crazy. I am so sending this story to my husband -- I could be saving lives!
