Dental x-rays

I'm long overdue for a dental check-up, having put it off throughout my pregnancy due to my fear of x-ray exposure. Now my baby boy is nearly 9 months old and nurses 4 - 5 times a day. Are dental x-rays safe for nursing moms and babies? My dentist assures me it's safe, but I'd rather hear it from a breastfeeding expert.

Thank you,

Cathy

Dear Cathy,

I can understand your concern about the safety of x-rays, but as your dentist advised, your milk will not be affected by a dental x-ray, and you can breastfeed as normal immediately following your dental visit.

Schedule your check-up, and if you are still feeling reluctant, you could ask your dentist to use 2 lead shields to act as a further buffer. Best wishes!

Warmly,
Debbi
