Design Your Own Nontoxic Nursery

With the many organic, nontoxic and sustainable items available, it's easier than ever to create a chemical-free room for your new baby or babies -- and there's no skimping on style either!

Take, for example, this serene-yet-modern nursery designed for triplets by Marsh & Clark Design at the 2010 San Francisco Decorator Showcase earlier this month.  Known for using sustainable furniture and products in their designs, Marsh & Clark chose toxin-free, hand-crafted cribs made of sustainably-harvested hardwood and Medite (a sustainable, formaldehyde-free, FSC-certified recycled fiberboard), coated in zero-VOC water-based white lacquer which is perfectly safe for teething babies. They also selected 100% wool, un-dyed carpets and non-VOC paint on the walls. Just add an organic crib mattress and sheets, and you’re pretty much good to go. Your baby and the environment thank you!

Some of our favorite eco-friendly resources:
Design Public -- Sustainable cribs, changing tables and wall art
The Land of Nod -- Organic curtains, rug pads and Mythic paints and primers
Giggle -- Organic mattresses and mattress pads
Wild Dill -- Organic crib bedding
Modern Nursery -- natural rugs
