Rumors have surfaced that Britney Spears was physically abused by her boyfriend and former agent Jason Trawick.
Star magazine features the pop superstar with a cover line that reads, "Jason Beat Me Up." It's being reported that Spears confessed to her ex-husband Jason Alexander (whom she married in that infamous 2004 quickie wedding in Las Vegas) that Trawick hit her.
Today, RadarOnline.com released audio obtained by Star that is allegedly of a telephone conversation between Alexander and Spears (who turns 29 on Thursday).
When Alexander asks the woman who is allegedly Spears about her rumored engagement to Trawick, she responds, "That (expletive) is not my fiancé." Alexander then asks her to elaborate more on the rumored engagement. "Before or after he beat on me?" she asks.
The audio goes on to reveal that Alexander knew about an alleged black eye Spears had and that her father, Jamie Spears, "has a shotgun and he’s just waiting to use it" on Trawick.
Both Spears and Trawick's camps have denied the story, but Alexander insists it's true. "Britney is in an abusive relationship," he tells Star in an exclusive interview. "She told me her life had turned into a nightmare."
The story certainly raises a handful of questions: If that is Spears on the tape, did she know she was being recorded? Why was Alexander's reaction to the abuse so casual? Will Spears' reps speak out about the other allegations in the story, including one that she was pregnant with Trawick's child earlier this year?
For Britney's sake, we're hoping the story is entirely false. But we're eager to get some answers to these burning questions.
