After more than three years of dating, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have officially split. Friends of the stars were quick to shoot down cheating rumors, -- but was pressure marriage the catalyst?
Rumors surfaced that Biel, 29, was pressuring Timberlake, 30, to hurry down the aisle. But People reports that their alleged different attitudes towards marriage didn't cause the breakup. "The topic of marriage wasn't the catalyst or the final straw that broke up the relationship," says a friend of Timberlake.
A source close to Biel says "there was no ring shopping," and that the actress "wasn't even thinking about marriage. That didn't play a part in their breakup at all."
According to a friend of Timberlake's, the Social Network star and Grammy-winning artist "is upset" that he and Biel were unable to make things work. "They always spent vacations together," says the source. "They always spent down time together. He was invested in her, in her friends and family... He was invested in their relationship on a lot of different levels. After four years, it's just not easy to walk away from it."
Contrarily, UsMagazine.com reports that another friend of the former boy-bander "had been aggressively trying to end things" and "(hasn't) been happy with Jessica for close to two years."
"You'd be surprised at how soon the love was lost on this one," the friend says. "Justin said he was miserable."
