Well, this news sucks as much as a thirsty vampire! Reports are swirling that real-life Twilight lovebirds Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson may have broken up -- at least for now.
"As things stand, they're on a break and just mates," a source tells London's Daily Mirror newspaper. The couple, who've been dating awhile (despite, you know, never actually confirming they were dating) are in the midst of filming Breaking Dawn, the decidedly more mature final installment of the Twilight saga, in Vancouver.
Things seemed to be going well, despite their differing ways of thinking. But this week, a studio source told the newspaper that K-Stew and R-Pattz have drifted apart.
"Things have been a bit rocky for a while. They both have hectic work schedules, Rob in particular at the moment, and their phone calls were getting fewer and further between," says the source. "They started to only see each other on set and began to drift apart until a general apathy developed."
Indeed, Pattinson showed up to a couple recent events without Stewart, including the Country Music Awards in Las Vegas earlier in the week and the Golden Globe Awards in January.
"The excuses why they couldn't meet up basically got weaker and weaker, and Rob figured they should officially cool things off and have some time to figure out what they each want," the source reveals.
Still, the couple may not be calling it quits for good. "There have been a few tears but the pair remain friendly," the source adds. "Kristen is hopeful of a reconciliation once Rob has finished promotion for his latest movie." Pattinson has been on a tub-thumping tour for Water for Elephants, his new movie with Reese Witherspoon, which hits theaters April 22.
Indeed, they may not be ending things at all. A different source tells Celebuzz that the pair is "still together," adding: "This is nothing new, they have been apart many times before."
Well now. Who and what to believe? It's always so complicated with inter-species dating! (Remember, he plays a vampire and she is his human lover). We're all just dying to find out what happens next.
