Maybe the Kennedys aren't as crazy about Taylor Swift as we thought! The 22-year-old country star accompanied her boyfriend, 18-year-old Conor Kennedy, to his cousin Kyle's wedding this weekend. Unfortunately, it appears that Taylor wasn't actually invited to the family affair.
"They texted me an hour before the wedding and asked if they could come," the mother of the bride, Victoria Gifford Kennedy, told the Boston Herald on Tuesday. "I responded with a very clear, 'Please do not come.' They came anyway."
Perhaps there was a misunderstanding? Absolutely not, Victoria told the newspaper.
"I personally went up to Ms. Swift, whose entrance distracted the entire event, politely introduced myself to her, and asked her as nicely as I could to leave," said Victoria. "It was like talking to a ghost. She seemed to look right past me."
The mother-of-the-bride insisted that wasn't anything personal. Victoria claimed that Conor was invited to her daughter Kyle's wedding, but didn't RSVP. By the time she got his text, they were unprepared for his attendance. Moreover, the family didn't want Conor's celebrity girlfriend taking attention away from the bride. Sure enough, Swift was swarmed by fans in the hotel where the wedding reception took place, and reportedly distracted guests by coming and going from the event.
As for the "We Are Not Ever Getting Back Together" singer, she insists that she was a welcome guest at the Kennedy wedding.
"There is no truth to [Victoria's story]," Swift's rep told the Herald. "Taylor was invited to the wedding and the bride thanked her profusely for being there."
Taylor has been dating Conor, the son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the recently deceased Mary Kennedy, for most of the summer. Until now, her relationship with the family seemed to be entirely positive; Conor's aunt Rory called her a "great friend of all of ours," and she has reportedly purchased a home near the Kennedy compound in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
