Difficult Personalities: The Locomotive

The Locomotive expresses her negativity by steam-rolling over people. She is very angry and hostile and takes out her frustations on others. She comes across as being tyrannical, autocratic and and dictatorial. Her favorite saying is "My way or the highway." Here's an example.

Locomotive: (standing over a staff member with one hand in a fist and finger pointing with the other) Do it now. No discussion. It better happen by 2 o'clock! (walks away)

Colleague: But...

Locomotive: No buts here. Just get to it.

Colleague: (mouth is wide open in disbelief)

The Solution

Do not take it! Describe to your supervisor how the person's behavior affects your work, express how it makes you feel and specify how you need to be communicated to differently. Be assertive with the locomotives.
