Difficult Personalities: The Uncommitted

An Uncommitted does not take her job seriously, making her teammates' work more difficult. Work is a very low priority for her. Her focus at work is trying to do as little as possible so as to find time to take care of personal matters or other interests. They sense no urgency in getting the work done. Their favorite saying is "It can wait." Here's an example:

Teammate: Jennifer, did you get the team report up to Mr. Davis in time?

Jennifer: Oh, let me see. No, I didn't. I have it right here.

Teammate: The team had all agreed that we would meet the deadline.

Jennifer: I didn't think it was that important. I had other things to do.

Teammate: It was very important.

Jennifer: Whatever! (Sounding annoyed.)

The Solution

An Uncommitted needs to have clear goals, standards, and expectations established and then communicated to her. She also needs close monitoring to see how they are performing.
