VACATION DESTINATION: The Catskill Mountains, New York
Back in 1963, well-to-do families spent their summer vacations at mountain resorts like Kellerman's, where they were offered endless rounds of cocktails, tennis and live music. But if Dirty Dancing is any indication, then the real fun happened after hours, in the staff quarters where employees let off steam. Jennifer Grey plays Baby, a sheltered 17-year-old who falls in love with brooding dance instructor Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze). Castle is everything that parents of a teenage girl fear -- older, sexually active, working-class -- and he’s everything Baby needs to finally become her own woman. Everyone has fun that year at Kellerman's, but only Baby has the time of her life.
