You know the story: For years — decades, even — you searched high and low before finally committing to a favorite style of jeans, lipstick color, mascara brand, or whatever it may be, only to see your go-to discontinued and ripped from store shelves and your life forever.
Thank goodness for eBay.
But would you pay $250 for a bottle of your favorite hard-to-find nail polish? That’s the price someone recently shelled out for a bottle of Essie’s Starry Starry Night,The New York Times reports. We can only hope that the navy polish with silver glitter, no longer on the Essie roster, boasts real precious metals in its tint.
Another eBay coup, according to the newspaper: Folks are paying $150-plus for “unicorn pee,” the insider name for the burgundy/green/gold/orange shade of Clarins 230, which has been off shelves since 2008.
However, for those not willing to shell out a week’s pay for a little bottle of lacquer, as with many fashion trends, you may be able to wait it out.
“After you’ve been around for a while, the colors come back around,” nail blogger Scrangie Marcanio tells the paper. “Someone is going to release an identical color.”
But for $150? An actual unicorn better come with that price tag.
