What's spirituality got to do with sex? Everything! Your sexual spirit is that part of yourself -- your deepest, innermost being -- that cannot really be defined. It's the essence of who you are as a sexual person. It's not about religion. Sexual spirit is more about the sexual energy running through you and your own sense of how aware you are of your sexual self. It's the part of the self that transcends the ego and the body, allowing you to become one with another person. And, of course, contacting your sexual spirit is the best way to create, release and enjoy more passion in your life. The union of sex and spirit can be the gateway to bliss!

Throughout this Love Lesson, I'll be introducing you to different ways you can touch, tap into or access the spiritual side of your sexuality. You will learn about esoteric teachings, try specific exercises (with and without a partner), explore new techniques and much more. Are you ready? It's time to discover your sexual spirit!

The first portal to discovering your sexual spirit is getting to know your sexual self -- the real, inner you. Many of you know by now that I am huge proponent of "know thyself," and that I teach about sex using solo sex as the foundation for all else. To have great partner sex or shared experiences, first you must master your sexual relationship with your own body.

I'd like you to try one of my favorite exercises, inspired by the writings of Louise Hay (You Can Heal Your Life). Give yourself plenty of time to do this. Stand in front of a mirror, clothed or unclothed. Look at your own face, reflected in the mirror, and look into your own left eye. (Many esoteric traditions teach that left eye contact deepens the spiritual aspects, perhaps because the left side of the body is governed by the right side of the brain, the site of intuition and nonlinear thinking.)
