Imagine the scene for a moment: It’s February 14. You’ve been anxiously awaiting a special surprise from your significant other. You arrive home and are led by the hand to the kitchen. “Close your eyes,” he says. “Okay, now open them.” There you stand, eyeing the room, heart pounding in anticipation. And what to your wondering eyes should appear? A big shiny silver dishwasher, wrapped in a big red bow. Huh?!
Well, according to a recent survey conducted by Sears, Roebuck and Co., three out of every four women would love to receive a dishwasher for Valentine’s Day. A pair of diamond earrings and a romantic dinner out rounded out the most-wanted gifts list.
Am I missing something or does this sound completely out of whack? If given the choice, would you choose a state-of-the-art Kenmore or 2-karat diamond studs?
