It seems a given that parents remain out-of-touch when it comes to their tweens’ favorite films and TV shows. But it doesn't have to be that way -- a little knowledge goes a long way.
Here’s the skinny on Pair of Kings, a new kids' TV show that hasn't even aired yet. Use this info wisely and you could earn back some of that pop culture credibility you lost when you thought Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez were the same person.
A live-action comedy from Disney XD, Pair of Kings officially launches Sept. 22, but premieres as a one-hour movie on Disney XD this Friday. (Watch a preview here). The show focuses on 16-year-old fraternal twins from Chicago who, after discovering they're heirs to royalty on the fictional island of Kinkow, move there to start a new life as co-kings. Think The Suite Life on Deck meets The Princess Diaries.
Naturally, mayhem ensues as the teenagers adjust to the island's customs and issues (Jeff Probst is presumably nowhere to be found).
The series stars Mitchel Musso and Doc Shaw. Musso, as you may know (and should!), played Oliver, that floppy-haired kid on Hannah Montana. He's also the voice of Jeremy on Disney's Phineas and Pherb. Bonus factoid: Musso released a pop album in 2009. Musso's co-king, played by Doc Shaw, is best known as Malik in Tyler Perry's House of Payne and Marcus in The Suite Life on Deck.
As you've realized by now, one twin is white and the other black -- an extremely rare occurrence -- but we're far from the real world. In fact, this particular world seems like it was dreamed up by nine-year-olds. In Friday’s special, for example, the boys accidentally destroy a sacred ruby, causing the eruption of "Mt. Spew". This gives their scheming cousin Lanny a chance to lead the kings into the clutches of "the Tarantula people". And you thought Santa Claus Conquers the Martians was far-fetched.
Keep those cynical thoughts to yourself as you prepare a few of these factoids for dinner discussion. When Pair of Kings comes up, it's your chance to run the table!
Will your kids watch Pair of Kings? Chime in now!
