DIY: Bouncy Retro Waves

Love vintage looks but aren't ready to go completely archival on your hair? These soft, retro waves are the perfect compromise. Created by Steph Brinkerhoff (blog.hairandmakeupbysteph.com), they pair as beautifully with a 50's frock as they do with the latest Alexander Wang.

DO IT YOURSELF!

Prep: Retro looks like this one require hair that’s free of grease or frizz, so make sure yours is clean and smooth.

Style:

Step 1: Start by creating a deep side part.

Step 2: Starting off of your part, curl your hair forward using a 1" to 1 1/2" curling iron; clip the curl in place while it cools down.

Step 3: Proceed to curl all your hair forward, clipping each curl in place as you go. After all of your hair is curled, let it sit for 15 minutes to set the curl in place.

Step 4: Take out the clips; use a paddle brush to brush through your hair.

Tip! The key to mastering this look is in the “forward curling” method, which creates the bounciest waves!
