DIY: Easy "Updo" for Short Hair

Styling short hair can be just as fun and creative as styling long hair, says Christie Saunders of, the blog she shares with good friend Natalia Simmons. "The first time I tried this pretty look, I got quite a few compliments!"

Prep: While hair is damp, work a dollop of hair gel through strands. Dry with a hairdryer, lifting sections of hair with your hands as you go to create a “piecey” style. If your hair is totally straight, use a thin flatiron to create a bit of curl and movement around your head

Step 1: Pull sections from the front of your head—toward the sides—back and pin in place.

Step 2: Divide the bottom of your hair into several sections; twist each and pin in place.

Step 3: Twist bangs backward and pin in place. Gently shake your head if the style is feeling stiff.

Tip! Is your hair highlighted? Styles that feature twisted sections of hair, like this one, show off the beautiful color gradations you spent so much on at the salon!
