Ornamented chiffon hair clips can be quite pricey, but lucky for you we've come up an easy way to make your own! Our DIY hair clip is the perfect way to dress up any outfit you'll be wearing this holiday season.
iVillageWhat You'll Need: -Chiffon fabric (about 1-2 yards)
-Needle and white thread
-Metal hair clip about 2.5"- 3" long
-Glossy Mod Podge
-Hot glue gun
-Decorative trimmings such as fine glitter, ribbon, feathers and beads
STEP 1. Cut the chiffon fabric into 10 - 15 circles that are between 4" 6" in diameter. Paint each fabric circle with a coat of Mod Podge and set aside to dry.
STEP 2. Once the Mod Podge is completely dry, one at a time, fold each circle in half - it's okay if it isn't exactly perfect!iVillage
STEP 3. Accordian fold along the crease of the folded circleiVillage
STEP 4. Hold the accordian fold and run the needle and thread through the middle of the folds to keep them in place. Pull the thread tightly and secure with a knot.
STEP 5. Repeat steps 2 - 4 for all of the fabric circles.
STEP 6. Start building the flower shape by taking two fabric pieces and sew them together at the 'base', pulling the thread tightly.
STEP 7. Continue to sew all the fabric pieces together so that they form a flower-like shape, pulling the thread tightly as you sew on each piece so they bunch in the center. Knot securely and cut excess thread.
STEP 8. Using the hot glue gun, decorate the center with feathers, beads, sequins or anything else that sparkles! To add even more sparkle, thinly paint mod podge and sprinkle fine glitter over the painted area. This technique looks especially nice when applied to the outside edges of the fabric.
STEP 9. Using the hot glue gun, apply a strip of glue to the flat top of the hair clip.
STEP 10. Before the glue sets, press the clip firmly onto the back of the fabric flower.
