Show off your hometown (or state) pride with our fun and easy DIY hometown holiday ornament craft. Museums, flea markets and airport gift shops are great places to pick up trinkets to put inside your ornament. (Our pink flamingos are a nod to the warm beaches of Florida where we'd like to be right now).
What You'll Need:
- Trinkets to put inside your ornament
- Clear cup or jar with lid
- Hot glue gun and
- Elmer's glue
- Glitter Gold elastic thread, yarn or thin ribbon
- Other decorative trimmings such as wrapping, tissue or washi paper, sequins, etc.
iVillageSTEP 1. Trace a circle on the decorative paper to use as a background on the inside of the lid and cut it out.
iVillageSTEP 2. Glue the paper to the inside of the jar lid.
iVillageSTEP 3. Paint a thin coating of glue on top of the paper.
iVillageSTEP 4. Sprinkle fine glitter on the glue before it dries to add some sparkle inside your ornament.
iVillageSTEP 5. Arrange the trinkets and then glue them into place.
iVillageSTEP 6. Paint the base of the jar with a glue that will dry clear.
iVillageSTEP 7. Sprinkle a light dusting of fine glitter on the glue before it dries.
iVillageSTEP 8. Paint the outside edges of the jar lid and apply glitter before the paint dries.
iVillageSTEP 9. Cut a piece of gold elastic thread (or yarn) that is about 12" long. Make a big knot at one end and then thread the ends through the hole in the sequin.
iVillageSTEP 10. Use a hot glue gun or super-strong glue to attach the sequin to the top of the ornament and hold until the glue has set.
iVillageSTEP 11. Once everything has dried, screw the jar back together, hang the ornament and admire your craftiness!
