The Idea: Make Your Own Totems from an Assortment of Glass Pieces

Glass totems sparkle brilliantly in the sunlight -- and moonlight. Create your own from glass pieces you pick up at yard sales, flea markets, or your recycling pile. To create an artsy little tower, clean the pieces and glue them together one on top of the other. Blogger Debra Anchors says her own glass totems have lasted through four Michigan winters without breaking and are beautiful in the snow. She created one of them from a vintage kitchen canister set from the 1950s and a 1970s punch bowl.

Why It’s Smart: It costs next to nothing, is fun to do, and adds personality to your garden.

Level of Difficulty: Moderate to hard

Time Required: The totems are time-consuming because it takes a while for the glue to dry. You need to wait at least an hour before adding a new piece of glass.
