Infants and Cats

Do cats really smother infants?

The information you heard is not correct -- merely a myth. For years, cats were blamed for unexplained infant deaths -- something we now know to be SIDS. I will say though that the cat shouldn't be allowed to sleep in the crib with the baby since an infant sleeping on her stomach, with her face to the side, cannot move away should the cat cuddle up too close. This danger exists with stuffed toys in the crib as well -- so it's just a matter of common sense. Thanks for your question.
