Over-the-Counter Pain Medications

Uses: Soothes joint injuries, sore muscles, headaches, fever and sunburn

Ibuprofen (Motrin), acetaminophen (Tylenol) and aspirin are essential, says Williams. If you have children, keep children’s ibuprofen and acetaminophen on hand as well, along with a dosing spoon. But do not give kids and teens aspirin, as there’s a risk of Reye’s syndrome (a serious condition resulting in swelling in the brain and liver that can lead to brain damage and even death). Once a year, look at your medication's expiration dates --update those that have expired because they'll be less effective.
